If your Chevrolet Malibu was made in the years 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 or 2004, your vehicle have no chip in the key. If you have lost all keys and you do not have a spare key, there are two options for a new Chevrolet Malibu key. Chevy Malibu has a build in interface of on-board procedure to duplicate keys. If you have at least one functional key, you can get an additional key purchasing a cut key online and follow the instruction bellow to program it:
- Insert an existing programmed functional key into the ignition slot.
- Turn the key to the ON for 5 seconds and then back to OFF position.
- Remove the key from the ignition, within 5 seconds insert the new cut key and turn it to the ON position for 5 more seconds.
- Turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position. The key is now duplicated.
- Start the vehicle and test the new programmed key.

If the driver lost all the keys to a Chevy Malibu, the vehicle computer must be connected to diagnostic equipment, the computer should be reprogrammed to accept a new key and reject the old one. This process require towing the vehicle to the dealer or a mobile locksmith come out to your location.
